Growing Towards A Better Tomorrow
I have about 2 weeks left until the semester is over and I’m doing pretty well. Taking college classes with a baby is not easy, but I’m making it work and giving it my all. I’m so ready to get my degree and while I have a bunch of responsibilities, I’m also working on my health as stated in the “21 Day Challenge” blog. I also wanted to announce that I will not be taking orders at this time, I have a daycare I’m working on, but I will continue to blog. Sometimes you have to step back and really think about what you’re doing, especially if you’re neglecting your business. I’m a person that’s creative and filled with ideas, so I’m going to take the time to revisit my goals with Love Barrel.
As an entrepreneur, a lot of people will not tell you about the struggles you will face. And if you are one to give up quickly, being a business owner is not for you. There are many seasons in the life of an entrepreneur and when one gets the hang of things, success follows. We have to have a lot of patience, do a lot of research, reading, connecting with the right people, taking care of our health, think positive, pray, and making sure we perfect what we are offering the people in our communities. For example; with the daycare my husband and I are working on, we are taking classes to better understand child development, learning to create a safe and positive learning environment where the families and children feel comfortable and feel accepted. Taking the time to educate yourself and work on your skills is going to take you far. We have to hold ourselves accountable and make sure we are doing our part to learn everything basic to the most complex to run our businesses and no one said you have to do it alone. There are a ton of resources and people you will meet along the way that will share their experiences, things they learned along the way, and even take you under their wing if they offer being your mentor.
All I can really say is to not give up. There may be a lot of businesses providing the same service, but you need to figure out what makes you different than everyone else. You need to make sure that you’re not constantly focusing on what others are doing or letting things get to you. As I stated before, we all have a season in the entrepreneur route and it’s all normal. My worst days were getting orders cancelled or not feeling confident enough to make a wedding cake for my neighbor. An opportunity to make a wedding cake came back to me full circle and I took the order and succeeded. I was nervous but I was not afraid to ask a local baker for assistance and she guided me by letting me know what I needed to make a sturdy two tier wedding cake. This local baker is Eileen and she owns Boricuas Sweet Paradise (Clarksville, TN). I have ordered from her for my baby reveal and the cake was delicious.
If there are entrepreneurship groups in your area, join them and network. You don’t know who you will meet and don’t forget to always aim to grow towards a better tomorrow.
